From Champaran with Care: The Story of BhoomiPure Oils

Some stories are born from legacy. Others from a longing to return.

For Dr. Sony Kumari, founder of BhoomiPure Oils, it was both.

Her journey traces back to the fields of Bihar’s Champaran region, where age-old traditions once shaped the rhythm of everyday life – bull-driven wooden kolhus (oil presses), unhurried mornings, and food that nourished far beyond taste.

It was a world she left behind when she pursued academics, eventually earning a PhD in Ancient Indian History. But as life came full circle – and a pandemic paused the world – Dr. Sony found herself standing at a quiet crossroads. One where the only way forward, was back.

“I realised we’d forgotten what purity really tasted like. I wanted to go back to our roots – not just to bring back the oil, but the intention behind it.”
Dr. SONY KUMARI

When Oils Carry More Than Flavor

BhoomiPure began with one wooden kolhu, a batch of native seeds, and a belief that slow, traditional methods were not just relevant – they were urgent.

Each oil is cold-pressed using bull-driven wooden ghanis, a method known not only for preserving nutrients, but for preserving meaning. From walnut and sesame, to coconut and mustard, every bottle carries the richness of the land, the wisdom of generations, and the care of small-batch craftsmanship.

But building something this rooted isn’t always simple. Compliance. Packaging. Distribution. Digital marketing. Scaling an artisan food brand came with hurdles – especially while staying true to its rural soul.
And yet, BhoomiPure didn’t just grow. It flourished.

What started in 2022 with support from the PMEGP scheme and Khadi India, has today become a brand trusted in conscious kitchens across the country – not just for its products, but for its philosophy.

A Fauji Family, A Grounded Dream

Behind BhoomiPure is a fauji family – one that understands service, sacrifice, and starting over.

Dr. Sony and her husband – both rooted in Bihar, both committed to purpose over profit – built the brand not just for themselves, but for their land, their people, and the kind of nourishment that begins long before the first bite.

It’s more than oil. It’s trust in a bottle.

This dream is told not by the founder herself, but by her daughter, Sanghini, who carries the same pride and purpose in every word.

A Brand with Depth and Direction

BhoomiPure stands at the intersection of ancestral wisdom and modern aspiration. Their 3-year vision includes rebranding, franchising, and expanding their cold-pressed product line – all while holding tightly to their values.

This is slow food at its finest. Not because it’s trendy – but because it’s timeless.
