Some stories start with a dream. Others begin with a scent.
For Ankita Chetan, founder of Roots to Roast, the story began in the hills of Coorg – in the quiet hum of coffee beans being sun-dried, the gentle clink of brass filters, and the rich, earthy aroma of her grandmother’s morning decoction that filled the home long before anyone was awake.
She didn’t know it then, but those childhood mornings were planting the seeds of something much bigger – a vision that would one day become her own handcrafted coffee brand. A brand that isn’t just about selling filter coffee – but about reviving a feeling.
“No matter where I went, I searched for that same flavor. But it never came close to what I remembered. I missed my roots – I missed that slow, soulful cup that felt like home.”

When Coffee is More Than a Beverage
Ankita grew up on a coffee estate, where her grandparents tended to beans with the same care one gives to a legacy. The stories, rituals, and sensory memories of that time stuck with her – even as life took her in another direction.
She married an Army officer and stepped into a life that was as unpredictable as it was enriching. From base to base, from city to city, she adapted, embraced, and gave her all. But with every new beginning came a quiet ache – a longing for that familiar taste of homegrown filter coffee.

A Fauji Life, A Waiting Dream
As a fauji wife, Ankita poured herself into her family, into building homes from scratch in new places, into balancing a creative career in interior design with the rhythm of army life.
But some dreams – the ones closest to our hearts – have a way of gently tapping us on the shoulder, again and again, until we’re ready to answer.
For Ankita, that moment came after her husband’s retirement – when for the first time, life offered a rare gift: stability. She finally had the time, space, and stillness to bring her long-held dream to life.
That’s when Roots to Roast was born. A brand crafted from memory, rooted in heritage, and brimming with love
A Brand Steeped in Soul
Roots to Roast isn’t just a coffee label. It’s a personal journey, bottled – one that captures the essence of filter coffee in its purest form and wraps it in contemporary flair. From estate-grown beans hand-harvested with care, to modern packaging that mirrors Ankita’s eye for design, every part of the brand is intentional.

It’s filter coffee for the modern Indian – proud of their past, excited about their present, and grounded in culture.
The brand’s aesthetic is a subtle ode to fauji life too – tidy, timeless, and quietly bold. Whether you’ve grown up on filter coffee or are tasting it for the first time, Roots to Roast invites you into a story that’s rich, authentic, and deeply comforting

How Baksa Tales Supports Stories Like This
At Baksa Tales, we believe that handmade, heart-led brands deserve a platform that honours the people behind them. Fauji wives are some of the most resilient creators we know. They start over time and again, adapt with grace, and build dreams in the margins of a fast-moving life.
And yet, their journeys often go unseen. That’s why we do what we do — because stories like Ankita’s matter.
Through Dil Se Duniya Tak, our talk series that celebrates purpose-led creators, we were honoured to feature Ankita’s journey – from the hills of Coorg to the shelves of coffee lovers across the country.
